Computer Science Practice

The Computer Science Practice Group at Cantor Colburn has drafted, prosecuted, and obtained tens of thousands of patents on behalf of its clients in a wide range of computer technologies including data communications, data processing, computer architecture, operating systems, artificial intelligence, networking, cloud computing, business methods, storage devices, databases, security, and data analytics.  Our attorneys and agents have extensive experience in intellectual property in relation to computer science and bring a variety of useful backgrounds to the team – former engineers, programmers and systems analysts; former in-house attorneys; and former patent examiners.

Our attorneys keep current with guidance from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and are leaders in industry associations to ensure that they are offering our clients the most current and most informed counsel in the changing landscape of 35 U.S.C. § 101.

Cantor Colburn is among the top U.S. law firms in obtaining software patents for its clients in an environment that has been very challenging since the Alice ruling by the Supreme Court in 2014. Cantor Colburn is top 10 in both getting Alice allowances and overcoming Alice rejections (Juristat). Cantor Colburn ranked #2 among high-volume filers for “Best Alice Allowance Rate,” with an allowance rate of 68% (over 13% above average), and #10 among high volume filers for “Best Alice Overcome Rate,” with 35% (almost 3% above average).
