Final Brexit Trade Deal December 24, 2020
Further to our December 22, 2020 Client Alert providing post-Brexit guidance for EU and UK IP rights, surprisingly the UK and the EU announced earlier today, December 24, 2020, that they had reached a final Brexit Trade Deal. This development should bode well for a “soft” Brexit landing, rather than the hard crash-out Brexit that had been feared. Only preliminary details of the new Trade Deal are currently available, but the agreement is not expected to have any material impact on the treatment of IP rights summarized in the Client Alert guidance. The Trade Deal is still subject to approval by EU leaders, the European Parliament, and the UK Government.
