Cantor Colburn Announces the Election of Brad Lawrence as Managing Partner

M. Brad Lawrence, currently Partner and Co-Chair of the Electrical Engineering Practice, has been elected to serve as the firm’s next Managing Partner, effective January 1, 2026. Brad is the first Managing Partner following the long-time leadership of founders Michael Cantor and Philmore H. Colburn II, who had been Co-Managing Partners since 1999. This transition demonstrates Cantor Colburn’s enduring commitment to providing reliable counsel and outstanding client service on a forward-looking basis.
“It’s an honor to be chosen as Managing Partner of Cantor Colburn,” Mr. Lawrence said. “When I joined almost 20 years ago, I knew right away that Cantor Colburn was a great fit, with amazing leadership, exciting clients, and a really remarkable team that emphasized collaboration and trust. Today, I am grateful that I can build on Mike and Phil’s legacy. Our focus remains clear and ambitious: be the team clients trust for exceptional IP counsel and measurable results.”
Mr. Cantor and Mr. Colburn said, “Serving as Co‑Managing Partners for thirty years has been the privilege of our lifetimes. With an incredible team, we grew Cantor Colburn into one of the nation’s leading IP firms. We are proud of what we’ve achieved and confident that Brad will build on our success and further elevate Cantor Colburn’s standing as a leading force in the IP community.”
Mr. Lawrence brings two decades of experience in providing strategic intellectual property (IP) counseling to sophisticated and innovative global clients. He manages one of the firm’s largest client portfolios, overseeing the distribution of work, ensuring quality control, and leading the client relationship with strategic oversight. Mr. Lawrence has spent the past year transitioning into firm-wide leadership and, during this time, he has immersed himself in the operational, financial, and strategic dimensions of firm management, positioning himself to guide Cantor Colburn into its next phase of growth. Mr. Lawrence earned his law degree magna cum laude from Boston University School of Law, and his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Colorado at Boulder.
