Cantor Colburn Client Alert: USPTO Extends Time for Small & Micro Entities to Pay Certain Fees

Cantor Colburn's Client Alert summarizes the most recent guidance from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office regarding extensions due to the COVID-19 crisis.  
On June 11, 2020 the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) announced that under authority provided by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act), deadlines for claiming priority to previously-filed patent applications would be extended through the end of July 30. The USPTO petition deadline extensions are effective as to applications whose priority benefit claim deadline fell on or after March 27, 2020 through July 30, 2020.
 
On June 29, 2020, the USPTO announced that under its CARES Act authority, most payment deadlines due between March 27, 2020 through September 29, 2020 will be extended to September 30, 2020.
